Where we are

Inside the Anapo nature reserve, about 10 minutes by car from Ortigia.

Starting point

Via Elorina 97, 96100 Siracusa (SR)

You launch straight from the river. Parking is available nearby. From central Siracusa, follow the SS115 / Via Elorina heading south-west.

The reserve

This is one of the very few places in Europe where papyrus grows wild. The reserve protects the river, its papyrus beds and the birds that live in them — you move slowly, without loud engines, surrounded by green.

The myth of Kyane

An ancient Greek legend lives in these waters.

In the myth, the nymph Kyane opposed the abduction of Persephone and was turned into a spring: her blue waters still rise near Siracusa and flow to the sea through the papyrus. Every paddle stroke here moves through that story.
